Today Ava Saw Mickey

Today was the day we'd been waiting for since Christmas.

Among the many gifts under the tree from your grandma and grandpa Fenner was tickets to see Disney Live's "Mickey's Music Festival" at Quicken Loans Arena.

We arrived an hour early and grabbed a bite to eat (mind you it was $12.50 for a hot dog and pretzel with cheese).

We were seated in an open area with a few high tables. About ten feet from us were floor to ceiling windows that looked out to the city.

Following a few bites of mom's pretzel you wanted down so you could roam around a little. Since my hot dog was gone, you and I walked to the windows so mom could finish eating.

We were elevated a little from the street and there was a city worker sweeping the area below us. She happened to turn around and look up. When she did you began to wave to her.

She got a big smile and began to wave back. You two waved to each other for a minute or so before she was out of sight.

A few minutes later, as I was telling mom about it, the worker was looking back to us and from what we could see, she was telling her coworker about you. They both looked in our direction and we encouraged you to wave again. Once you spotted them, you stomped your feet in excitement and waved again.

Looking out, mom and I could tell that you made someones day. She enjoyed the interaction with you.

Soon, it was time to take our seats.

We had second row from the floor just off the side of the stage. The view was perfect.

A little pre show popcorn.
I have never seen you so focused as I did when the lights dimmed and the curtain opened to Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy singing on stage.

The show lasted two acts, the first transitioned from Mickey and the gang into an Alladin skit and following a short intermission Mickey and the gang came back to introduce the Little Mermaid.

You were very into the show but at times you wanted more Mickey!

When the Aladin and Little Mermaid skits were going on a few times you looked at mom and me and asked "Mickey?" To which we had to keep telling you that he'll be back soon.

Once the show was over we could tell you were tired and feared you may not make it to the aquarium.

We asked you if you wanted to see fish. Of course you did! You kept saying "fish" the entire walk to the car.

A little back story about the aquarium - before you were born I received four tickets to the Greater Cleveland Aquarium as a door prize at our Holiday Party at work. We never had a chance to use them but brought them with us today just in case.

We weren't even sure if the aquarium would even still honor them since they were so old.

We decided to chance it. If you fell asleep along the way then we would turn around and go home or if they told us the tickets were no good, we'd simply go home. No harm, no foul.

Much to our delight, you stayed awake and the tickets were honored. We were batting three for three today!

You lit up once we walked in and you saw those tanks.

They even had a small area for rescued tortoises in which you could touch and feel their shells.

Hesitant at first, you eventually came around and with mom's help, touched the tiny turtle.

You enjoyed walking around and seeing the different tanks.

At one point, you walk round a turn and walk down a narrow hallway that had three tanks built into the wall. The tanks were narrow - about the width of a window but stretched from the floor to the ceiling.

You ran up and put your hands against the glass and just stared. Of course, mom and I wanted photos. I would love to know what the aquarium employee thought as she came around the bend to see mom and I practically laying on the floor to get a cool angle for our photos.

Once she say you so interested in the fish, she understood.

The only part you didn't like were the sharks. At the end of the tour is a large tank housing numerous aquatic life plus a few species of shark.

You knew they were scary from the onset. We tried to tell you they were safe, but your mind was made up. One of them was swimming parallel with the viewing area and I took you to walk alongside it. Once we got to it, you buried your head into my shoulder and said "no, no, no, no" until we were away from it.

There's also an area where you can walk through a glass tunnel and underneath the tank I just described. It was cool to see the underside of the sharks and fish as they swam above. An angle you don't get very often. Again, the sharks freaked you out a bit. Same result as before.

The tour concludes at the gift shop. We quickly made our way through before you could see all of the stuffed animals and would insist on having one for your collection.

A little more than an hour after we arrived it was back in our car for the drive home.

We knew you were tired, but we were barely out of the parking lot before your eyes were closed.

I'd say you had a good day!
