Today Ava Learned

Much as I worked with you to clap, your mom has been working with you too. Unbeknownst to me, when she would change you, she also worked with you to learn a few shapes and animals.

In your nursery is a quilt that came with your crib set. It is shades of purple and lavender and white with corduroy and felt fabrics. Since you were born your mom would run your fingers across the fabrics so you could feel them.

On the quilt are the shapes of flowers, a lady bug, and a butterfly.

As you began to get a grasp on the fabrics, your mom would introduce the flowers and animals to you. Gradually you began to reach for them, to feel them. As you would do so, your mom would tell you their names. Often repeatedly so you could learn them.

Well, learn them you did!

This evening your mom changed your diaper and then was going through this routine with you and she excitedly called me in to the back room.

She would ask you to point out the lady bug or the flower, or the butterfly. You would smile and reach for the correct shape each time.

When asked what your favorite was, you reached for the butterfly. Not once, twice, but multiple times. “Which one is your favorite, Ava?” with a lunge and a laugh you grabbed for the butterfly.

You looked so excited to do so and your mom and I are so proud.
