Today Ava Went to Zoombezi Bay

Today starts Day 1 of our mini vacation. Grandma Fenner booked a weekend retreat at Deer Creek State Park for every one. It's going to be nice to get away for a few days and unplug myself as bet as possible from work and the real world. But most importantly, it's going to be a new adventure for you.

Since check-in wasn't until after 3:00 p.m. today we made a pit stop at Zoombezi Bay water park at the Columbus Zoo. As part of parental privilege we never told you there was a zoo beside the water park. We didn't need an unnecessary fit.

We took our time getting ready this morning and made the drive to Shelby to pick up grandma. We then got to the park a little after 1:00 p.m. and picked up our tickets. Say thanks to your Aunt Holly for getting us comp tickets to the park. She has a friend who's husband works for the zoo and was kind enough to hook us up with tickets. Saved us around $130.

Once we finally got in and you dipped your toes into the cold water, it was game on.

To this point in your short life I haven't seen you so excited for something. The kiddie pool was full of slides, spraying water and was just the right depth for you.

Admittedly, I played the part of overprotective dad for about ten minutes until I felt comfortable that you were totally safe in the water.

It was pure joy for mom and me to see you splash around and go up and down the slides. If you went under, you didn't panic. Played it totally cool.

One thing that sticks out with me from today is that as you'd make your way back to the steps of the slides you'd jump up and fall into the water on your butt. Over and over again.

It was cute to watch.

Deep down you knew that at some point the fun had to come to and end and with blue lips and chattering teeth you put up a valient - albeit tired - fight to get out of the water.

Now for the final leg o the trip to Deer Creek.

We unloaded our bags and headed for the water and - you guessed it - tossed some rocks in the drink before the night was through.

You stand flat footed when you throw so mom tried working some new mechanics into your game to give you a little edge and some more distance on your toss.

She put a step into your motion.

You've got the step and you've got the throw, now we just need to get the two o work in unison.

But, that's enough fun and learning for one day. We've got a fun weekend ahead of us now let's get in and get rested!
